Apart from one of the most cinematic names you’ve ever heard, who is Beowulf Borritt?

From what we discovered as internet strangers, he’s a New York based set designer who uses innovative perspective to bring theatrical stories to life.

Before winning a Tony Award for his work on Act One, Beowulf was a young artist unsure of his future in the art world. His parents fled to the United States during the  Hungarian Revolution of 1956, and settled on the Eastern Coast where Beowulf's mother lived life as an Opera Singer, taking Beowulf behind the scenes of Macbeth and other productions from a young age.

Beowulf never quite believed he could pursue a career in design until he was inspired by his Grandmother who was an artist in her own rite.

"I didn't think it was possible. I thought I might become a college professor and teach set design somewhere."

A scenic designer at Wesselley College, Grandma Boritt was discouraged to pursue scenery design as a woman in the 1930's. Fortunately she passed her wisdom and artistry on to her grandson. Beowulf made his way up from small gigs in NY to off broadway to Broadway.

Flash forward to today, and Beowulf is a Tony Award winning designer for his work on Act One, and currently dominates the broadway world with stage designs like, Sunday In The Park With George and Come From Away.
